Our school loosely follows the traditional Suzuki Method for violin. This method:
- aims to create an environment for learning music which parallels the linguistic environment of acquiring a native language.
- In the beginning, becoming comfortable with the violin by learning music by ear is emphasized over reading written musical notation.
- Memorization of all solo repertoire is expected, and pieces are refined through constant review.
- Retaining and reviewing every piece of music ever learned is strongly encouraged.
Parents of especially young children are expected to play an important role in the learning process, supervising instrument practice and attending and taking notes during lessons so they can coach the student effectively.
Our beginner violin students start out with Suzuki Violin School volume 1 and Dorothy Croft Violin Theory Book 1.
